Ingredients

  • 6 cups seedless watermelon, cubed and chilled
  • 2 cups cold water
  • 2 tbsp fresh lime juice
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar, optional, only if needed (optional)
  • ice, for serving

Instructions

Cut the watermelon into cubes, removing any black seeds if necessary.

Add the watermelon, cold water, and lime juice to a blender.

Blend until completely smooth.

Taste before adding any sugar. A ripe watermelon may need none at all.

If needed, add 1 tablespoon sugar, blend briefly, and taste again before adding more.

For a smoother agua fresca, pour through a fine-mesh strainer into a pitcher. For a slightly fuller watermelon texture, leave it unstrained.

Refrigerate until cold if the ingredients were not already well chilled.

Stir before serving and pour over ice.

Chef's Notes & Storage

The watermelon determines this drink. Use a deeply colored, sweet, ripe melon and keep the added sugar minimal. The finished drink should taste primarily like fresh watermelon.
