Ingredients

  • 4 cups ripe cantaloupe, peeled, seeded, and cubed
  • 4 cups cold water
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar, or to taste
  • ice, for serving

Instructions

Cut the cantaloupe in half and scoop out the seeds.

Remove the rind and cut the flesh into chunks.

Place the cantaloupe, 2 cups of the cold water, and the sugar in a blender.

Blend until completely smooth.

Pour into a pitcher and stir in the remaining 2 cups cold water.

Taste and adjust the sweetness. Very ripe cantaloupe may require considerably less sugar.

If you prefer an especially smooth drink, strain it through a fine-mesh strainer. Otherwise, serve it with its natural fruit body.

Refrigerate until thoroughly chilled.

Stir before serving and pour over ice.

Chef's Notes & Storage

Choose a ripe, aromatic cantaloupe. Agua de melón is at its best when the fruit supplies most of the sweetness and flavor rather than relying on added sugar.
